Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA’s metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientists, software & hardware engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers.

KLA is ramping its fastest-growing new research & development center in Ann Arbor, MI, and we're hiring the best talent for it.  In Ann Arbor we're developing product equipment, test centers, and the software and AI algorithms that power the cutting-edge capabilities KLA is recognized for. 

Central Engineering is KLA's largest engineering organization comprised of 9 Centers-of-Excellence (CoE) in various disciplines applied across all product groups in the company, and across all global regions. These CoE include Handling & Automation, Precision Motion Control, Sensors & Image Acquisition, Platform Design, and Packaging Engineering, among others. Talent includes over 1,000 engineers across global centers in Israel, China, India, and the US. Each CoE contributes not just talent and deliverables per discipline toward product programs, but also subject matter expertise, best practices, roadmaps, specialized facilities, apparatus, models, and analytics. These differentiate KLA not only in WHAT we do, but also in HOW we do it.

Responsibilities

In this role successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Understand system and subsystem requirements
  • Perform feasibility studies and proof of concepts
  • Conduct analysis, such as circuit, timing, thermal/cooling, AC/DC power design, electrical loads, FPGA modeling
  • Conceptual and detailed design using design tools (i.e. OrCAD, PSpice, Xilinx/Altera FPGA /EPLD development systems, etc...)
  • Provide detailed drawings, design review presentations, procurement of prototype parts, system integration, prototype testing, and handoff to manufacturing
  • Develop, test and integration of complex electrical components and subsystems (including PCBs, cables, system interconnect)
  • Actively participate in the subsystem integration process collaborating with the Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Optical Engineering teams
  • Interact with manufacturing, service teams to support a smooth product transition into manufacturing
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure all design requirements are specified and achieved and address and resolve product issues through the product phases
  • Write technical documentation that meets the defined quality standards for manufacturing and service as required
  • Assist in identification of failure modes and development of FMECA models

Qualifications

  • AC/DC power distribution design
  • Controls knowledge (control circuit design including motion controls, thermal modeling/controls, PID tuning)
  • PLC programming (e.g. Siemens, Allen Bradley)
  • FPGA modeling
  • Software applications such as MATLAB, Python, LabView
  • Be able to work in a multi-discipline and multi-culture global organization
  • Be flexible and adaptive to adjust project focus based on changes of business priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be self-driven and a strong team player
